THEATRE OM BEGINS WITH SHAKESPEARE

On April 29 at 8:00 p.m., Bryusov Hall on Mayakovskaya will host the premiere of the carnival of disappearance Macbeth. Emanation of the Dark, the first part of The Awakened Human Being trilogy. Tickets are now on sale.

Theatre OM returns with Macbeth. Emanation of the Dark, based on William Shakespeare’s play. The production is an original project by director and teacher Roman Akimov, a graduate of the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts — GITIS.

Macbeth. Emanation of the Dark is presented as the first part of The Awakened Human Being trilogy. The production does not follow an illustrative retelling of the plot. One of Shakespeare’s most famous figures appears here not as a “character,” but as a mechanism of damaged consciousness, a function and a title. It is the theatre’s attempt to look into the darkness embedded in the very foundations of human existence.

The first premiere became more than an artistic statement: it was a manifesto of the theatre’s philosophy. In Macbeth, there are no external effects created merely for spectacle. Instead, there is a metaphysical tragedy enacted through the characters’ encounters with their own inner darkness.

Something is born within the chamber hall that far exceeds the physical dimensions of the stage. It breaks beyond its boundaries not physically, but sensorially. The production is described in the programme as “a carnival of disappearance based on the great tragedy,” establishing its philosophical and analytical tone.

Appearing in the phenomenon: Pavel Yuster, Sergey Sukhin, Daria Ignatieva, Valeria Kislyakova, Kristina Sokolova, Mikhail Russkikh, Andrey Smirnov, Sergey Koroed, Yulia Vorobyova, Yaroslavna Snegur, Anastasia Stolova, and Nikolay Gallyamov.

The identity of Theatre OM is shaped to a great extent by its Artistic Director. Roman Akimov is a graduate of the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts — GITIS, a director, and a teacher. His many years of work have formed a coherent methodology in which theatre is understood as a space of inner experience, the search for conscious action, the creative act, and symbolic expression.

Akimov defines the theatre’s artistic direction as “unconscious symbolism.” For him, theatre is not a factory for producing illusions, but a space for exploring human nature. It is no coincidence that the theatre’s mission is expressed in the words: “To become a light for those who stand upon a road without stars.”

The opening of Theatre OM in central Moscow is a significant event. It strengthens the growing movement towards close contact between the artist and the spectator: today, Moscow’s chamber venues are no less sought after than its major stages. It is also a rare example of an initiative that has naturally developed into a professional theatre while preserving its artistic intensity.

Finally, the choice of Macbeth to open the season is a declaration of serious artistic intent: to speak with the audience about fear, temptation, freedom, and the price of choice through the language of contemporary theatre.
